Cup victory in derby clash for Gainsborough Trinity U16s

Trinity knew what to expect, and the game did not disappoint.

Both teams were up for a good old local derby and the game was played with great spirit from both teams.

The playing conditions made it very difficult for both teams to play football, as the pitch resembled more of a farmer’s field.

Trinity took the early lead with a great passage of play from Liam Quinn and continued to press Marshalls throughout the first half.

Another goal came Quinn’s way, to give Trinity a 2-0 lead going into the second half.

The second half began with Marshalls trying to get back into the game, but with Mark Raisborough and James Caldwell and Tom Clarke at the back, who all had excellent games, their chances were soon snuffed out.

Trinity in the second period had two further goals disallowed.

And Marshalls managed to grab one back in the dying minutes, but it was Trinity who went through with a 2-1 victory.

Gainsborough Trinity Under 15s got the new year off to a flying start with an excellent display in their 6-0 demolition of Bottesford Falcons.

Trinity pressed from the start and could have gone in front with chances for Keatan Gale, Daniel Krakow and Tom Williams.

But it was Gale who put the away side ahead when the ball was crossed in for him to scored at the far post.

And Trinity were two up before half-time when a shot from Daniel Goble found the net.

In the second half Trinity went from strength to strength being able to pass the ball around with ease and when top scorer Williams burst into the area to round the keeper and slot the ball home, the points were assured.

A smart move involving Sam Trowsdale and Daniel Clark put Williams clear again to score an identical goal.

But there was still time for Spencer Robson to convert two smart finishes to round off an excellent individual midfield performance for himself.

Captain Jack Weatherell nearly made it goal number seven when he collected the ball from inside his own half, surging forward beating a number of Bottesford players but his shot from inside the area produced an excellent save from the home keeper who had made some fine saves throughout the game.

Gainsborough Trinity are in action at home this Sunday, when they face Crowle Colts with a 10am kick-off.
