Jackson hails 'complete performance' as big win resets the bar for Gainsborough Trinity

Defender Ashley Jackson hailed Gainsborough Trinity’s ‘complete display’ in their 3-0 away win at Warrington Town on Saturday.

The victory reset the bar for the Holy Blues, who rose to seventh in the Northern Premier League by ending Warrington's unbeaten home record in style to send out a clear statement to the other teams in the division.

Full back Jackson, who helped Russ Wilcox's side to a first win in six, said: “It was a brilliant performance.

“The desire was there. Backing each other up. Strong in tackles. It worked a treat. That’s what we are about.

“We had a bit of a wobble, but we have had illness in the camp and it’s about reacting to that.

“That just shows what we are capable of, it’s now about consistency and keeping it up.

“That’s the bar we have to strive for, week in week out.

“If we play like that every week, there won’t be many teams that will be able to beat us.

“We are hard to break down and then we created some fantastic chances with pace, power and strength up top, and exactly the same at the back.

“The midfield worked their socks off too and it was a well rounded performance from everybody.”

He added: “The clean sheet topped things off.

“Our scorelines haven’t been the best from a defensive point of view, and conceding again on Tuesday night, but that result will breed confidence now.

“We have got to stick to it now, keep adding to those clean sheets – and they'll potentially help us keep climbing the league.”

Experienced defenders, Aaron Simpson and Adam Crookes were restored to the starting line up, having served suspensions, and Jackson said: “Everyone who has played at the back has done a good job and been solid, whether it’s a back four, or back five.

“For Russ to have that strength in depth, and know whoever he is going to put in there will put in a shift – and hopefully take us to the next level”

Gainsborough now begin a run of three home games on the bounce. starting on Saturday when Stocksbridge Park Steels visit the Kal Group Stadium.

Leek Town follow on Tuesday night, before Ilkeston Town are the visitors a week on Saturday.

“We have a nice little treat this weekend, with no midweek game, and then we are back on it, Tuesday night, fully focused for the Stocksbridge game,” said Jackson.

Trinity won the reverse fixture at Bracken Moor 2-0, Jonny Margetts grabbing a first half brace for the Holy Blues.

And Margetts was on the scoresheet again, against Warrington Town on Saturday, taking his tally for the season to 12.

Deep-lying forward, Frank Mulhern is also enjoying a purple patch with three goals in the last three games.
