Late double earns Barnetby a battling point at Limestone Rangers

Goals in the closing stages of the game at the picturesque but weather beaten Hollowgate Hill ground saw Barnetby emerged with a 2-2 Scunthorpe & District League draw against Limestone Rangers Reserves, having been two goals down with 16 minutes left.

The Railwaymen faced the wind and rain in the first half and held firm through a combination of poor finishing and good keeping from stand-in Scott Gowing.

As the half progressed Barnetby came into the game, and following great work from Dean Broughton, Olly Fielden spurned a golden opportunity to give his side the lead as a heavy touch let the chance go begging.

On the stroke of half-time a linesman’s call saw Kian Humphriss enter the sin-bin following a difference of opinion over the decision with the referee.

Having faced the wind and battled for 45 minutes and keeping the scores level, down to 10 men Barnetby conceded three minutes into the second half as Chris Thornton beat Gowing at his near post.

Thornton then doubled his side's lead on 55 minutes as he broke through to make it 2-0.

Restored to a full complement of 11, the Railwaymen pushed on.

Jordan hit the post only to see the rebound fall to Fielden, whose first time effort was saved by the recovering keeper.

Britcliffe replaced Kendall who put a shift in on debut.

On 74 minutes Cody Langton latched onto a ball and pushed on before hitting an effort into the corner to give his side a lifeline.

Backed by an ever increasing wind and rain driving into Limestone faces Barnetby piled the pressure on looking for the equaliser.

On 84 minutes Humphriss found his redemption following his 10 minute sabbatical earlier in the game as his long range effort caused the Limestone keeper issues and the scores were level.

Limestone bounced back and deep into injury time, having survived a corner already, Josh Skipworth’s effort from the resulting corner looked like clinching the points but for a heroic body on the line block by skipper Ryan Jordan to keep the score 2-2.
