Louth Town return for Bailey Wright as White Wolves win again

Louth Town have made an excellent belated start to the New Year with a 2-1 home win over Ilkley Town on Saturday followed by sealing a return to the club for winger Bailey Wright.

After last weekend's game at Maltby main was called off, the White Wolves have had to sit it out for two weeks, but returned to make it four games unbeaten.

And a fine weekend was crowned by news of Wright's return from half a season at Northern Premier League side Grimsby Borough.

“We are absolutely delighted to get the signing over the line,” said manager Carl Martin.

“Bailey left to play Step 4 football after last season but it has not worked out for him, not helped by injury.

“I have worked with him for three or four years and know him well and he knows what we are all about. He will give us that extra quality and will be available for this weekend.

Ilkley Town's visit on Saturday survived a pitch inspection.

Louth went ahead on seven minutes when Keiran Perry's shot from the edge of the box was fumbled by the keeper and Will Pennell reacted quickly to net.

Peter Roberts levelled matters on 61 minutes, but with eight minutes left, Alex Aldritch buried a bullet header from a Rhys Smaller corner.

“Full credit to the ground staff for getting the game on as, to be brutally honest, I thought it would get called off,” said Martin.

“We were in total control in the first half, but credit to Ilkely, they were the better side in the second half and deserved their equaliser.

“We made some subs and changes and they made a huge difference and we were the only side who looked likely to go on and win it. It was a real squad effort.

“We have probably played better and lost. But that is now four unbeaten and two wins on the bounce and with Bailey returning and injured players coming back, we are confident of a good second half to the season.”

Louth travel to Route One Rovers on Saturday who are 11th, ,two places and four points above the White Wolves.

“Route One are scoring goals for fun and their No.9, Zak Khan, has over 40 goals already this season, plus they play on a 3G pitch, so we know it will be tough,” said Martin.

“We led them 2-0 at home but threw it away, losing 4-2 and finishing with 10 men. But we go up there full of confidence this weekend.”
