Horncastle Men’s 1sts 8

Cambridge City Vets 0

Horncastle Hockey Club’s Men’s Firsts got revenge on Cambridge City Vets with an 8-0 victory.

Their opponents had been the only team to defeat the already- promoted Horncastle side this season, but that result was emphatically reversed at the weekend.

Connor Brook gave Horncastle the early lead before more goals were to follow.

Nick Bennett and Cameron Foster added to the scoreline while Sam Bradley offered Cambridge little chance of respite with his clever interceptions.

After the interval it was more of the same, with Horncastle adding five further goals.

Bennett was on the scoresheet again and Robert Scott scored the team’s 99th goal this season.

With Horncastle showcasing a new formation and a limited squad, the nerves were high when they faced their second-placed opponents.

Although an early goal was conceded, Horncastle did not let this get under their skin, keeping their composure and attacking the Pelicans’ D regularly.

A goalmouth scramble denied Horncastle but work from K. Wood and E. Tokelove resulted in I. Williams hitting the backboard.

Some fantastic saves from L. Neame kept Pelicans at bay before they regained the lead just before half time.
