The seventh annual Sherwood Pines Trail Races attracted nearly 500 club, amateur and fun runners.

In first place in the 10k was Shane Robinson of Lincoln Wellington who finished in 33 minutes 51 seconds, almost a minute ahead of the second placed runner.

Alice Venkatesan of Mansfield Harriers was the first lady home in 40.59.

In the 5k race a brilliant performance by Retford Athletic and Running club youngster Sam Roberts saw him take first place in 18.55.

First lady home in the 5k was Emily Venkatesan in 23.44, making it a great family double for the Venkatesans.

Results for the 10k and 5k are now available on the Retford Athletic and Running club website and event Facebook site.

Race director David Corbett said: “It’s been an excellent day and a great atmosphere.”

“The cooler temperatures made the race conditions much better and we saw some really impressive times posted.”

“Sherwood Pines has once again proven to be a great venue for the race.”

Over 50 volunteers helped to make the race happen, including friends and family, members of Retford Athletic Club and many volunteers from Bluebell Wood Children’s hospice, the chosen charity for the event.

Corbett added: “Thanks go to the runners, supporters, volunteers, those involved in organising the event, particularly to co-organiser Charmian Heaton, starter Ian Campbell, and to all our sponsors.”
