Bourne care home and primary school come together to mark harvest festival
Residents, loved ones, friends and staff at The Cedars celebrated the Harvest Festival by joining the children of Bourne Abbey C of E Primary School for their very special Harvest Festival, which they held in Bourne Abbey.

The occasion was marked with some amazing singing by the children which really helped everyone get into the spirit of the festival and join in. Food donations brought in by visitors were gifted and beautifully displayed all around the church and were very well-received.
The Harvest Festival is a celebration of food grown on land, traditionally, a time for families and communities to get together and bring food to the less fortunate. It dates back to the fifth century, where it was common for the harvest season to be celebrated with a huge feast – and from then the tradition grew and evolved.
Barbara Coleman, a lifelong resident of Bourne, said: “Such a warm welcome awaited us from all the children, as we walked in, it was just lovely!" And Senior General Manager, Rebecca Aldred said, “It was lovely hearing from the residents how it took them back on a nostalgic trip to their childhoods, their children’s childhoods and indeed, their grandchildren’s childhoods – such special memories to share.”
One resident commented on the celebrations, saying: “It was wonderful to listen to the children tell their story of the Harvest and they were so responsive and loved chatting to us afterwards, and that made my day!”
