He said: “Qualifying was tough but I managed to find some space during the session and beat my personal best lap time from the race last year, which is positive progress.”

Starting race one from an eighth row grid position, Aaron equalled his qualifying position by finishing the race in sixth place in his class - an overall position of 15th.

Race two saw Aaron embroiled in an incredible battle for position amongst a large group of riders.

He was pulled along by the faster riders of the group and managed to shave a further second from his best time to complete the 12-lap affair in sixth place once again.

In the final race of the weekend Aaron began to struggle with his knees and, after a few near crash moments in the previous race, thought it wise to go for a cautious finish and bring the bike home safely.

Nonetheless he completed his final race in a creditable seventh place to pick up nine more championship points bringing his total haul from the weekend to 29.

That moved him up a place to fourth in the overall standings.

Aaron said: “Overall it was very tough as there was so much competition, but a good weekend with no DNFs and, with the points collected, this has moved me up to fourth in the championship, which I am pleased about.

“Luckily no dramas with contact lenses this weekend, as I ended up taking them out completely and racing without, which brings a new meaning to ‘speed blur’!”

○ The next round is at Oulton Park on July 1/2 when Aaron will be aiming to retain his championship position.
