Superprix success for sidecar pair

With a second and a win at Brands Hatch, Todd Ellis and Charlie Richardson secured second place in the Molson Group British Sidecar championship - and went one better in the Santander Salt International Superprix.

They claimed the win with just a one point advantage over eight-time world champion Tim Reeves and his French passenger Kevin Rousseau.

The Superprix was run within the grid of the British Championship races where Ellis and Richardson took pole position.

On lap five Reeves and Rousseau made a pass and took the lead, the North Kelsey duo unable to make a pass, crossing the finish line in second place.

The grid was reversed for the second race which also had double points up for grabs. The first 10 teams were reversed meaning that Ellis and Richardson were placed on row five.

As the race began Ellis and Richardson got away well and made up six places to third on the opening lap, leading by the second lap.

They established an unbeatable lead over Reeves and Rousseau when the race was red flagged for a crash on the penultimate lap.

A result was declared with Ellis and Richardson taking the win in both sections of the race.

After a hurried add up of points it was announced that Ellis and Richardson were the runners up in the British Championship with 170 points, their Santander Salt teammates Kershaw and Charlwood pronounced the champions with 193.

In the International Sidecar Superprix Ellis/ and Richardson emerged the winners by just one point from Reeves and Rousseau by 99-98 points.

Ellis said: “We were really lucky getting through the traffic so quickly. If we had started on the front row together it would have been a cracking race between us.”

He added: “But we made it easy for ourselves so really happy with the result.”
