The Kirton rider is joint top of the standings following his eighth and ninth podiums out of 10 races so far this year.

Qualifying went well with two third-place starts.

There was a torrential downpour just before Saturday’s race, which made for a wet race.

Molsom made a good start from third on the grid, maintaining his position and setting about chasing the leaders.

The lead pair were fighting for track position at every corner on a drying track, with Molsom sitting and waiting for his chance.

However, a red flag due to a car in the gravel at Paddock Hill Bend prevented any progress.

Sunday’s race was closely fought from the off, an excellent start saw Molsom up to second, pushing Briant for the lead.

However, Benson soon recovered from a poor start, pushing Molsom down to third.

Benson and Briant had a great battle for the lead and Molsom couldn’t quite stay with the pair, finishing two seconds behind the leaders.

“Brands Hatch is a great circuit, with a high work rate, as there are no real straights,” Molsom reflected.

“Paddock Hill Bend is certainly a challenge every lap, especially in the wet.”

The championship race is getting ever tighter, with three drivers recording three wins each.

It looks as though the title will go down to the last race in Spa-Francochamps in Belgium.

The next meeting is at Oulton Park in Cheshire in early August.
