Ruskington bookend mixed week with whitewash wins

Ruskington Bowls Club had a busy week scheduled, but with three of the seven matches cancelled, the club served up two good wins and two losses.

Opening against Leadenham in the City (Evening) League on their home green, Ruskington cleaned up with a full house of 12 points.

Wendy Pateman’s set of Jim Barclay and George Glover lost 17-22, Waylon Clarke, with Jock Mitchell and John Hurst, won 21-15, David Miller’s set of Les Wilkinson and Linda Picton won 16-13, and Tony Codd, with Keith Pilbeam and Trevor Thackray, won 23-20.

* Back at home again for the Lincoln District League, Ruskington gathered just two points for a rink win, but it was a tight match with the hosts losing by just five shots on aggregate, 57-62.

Lee Road visited for a City (Afternoon) League battle , and once more the hosts gained one rink victory and two league points.

David Miller, with Isabel Drain and Les Warren, edged a very close game 15-13, but Jackie Ray’s set of Les Wilkinson and Jim Barclay were outclassed 10-21, while Les Jenkins with Eddie Yeates and Jim Matson were well beaten by a set of two, losing 9-19.

* Ruskington made a fine start to life in a higher division of the Coningsby League, taking all eight points from the trip to Stickney.

Jim Matson with Jock Mitchell and Keith Pilbeam won 28-5, Waylon Clarke with Sue Mitchell and Tony Codd won 31-7, and Les Jenkins with Lorraine Clifton and Jackie Ray came through a competitive game to win 15-12 for a quite satisfactory end to the week.
