Art, design and technology teacher Teresa Milnes, 49, from Timberland, was inspired to run for United Response, because of the work the national charity does in supporting young adults with learning or physical disabilities and mental health needs.

Teresa has worked at Kesteven and Sleaford High School for 15 years and has seen students study, live and work all over the world thanks to excellent exam results, but said: “I know, however, that there are many young people who may not have that assurance, through no fault of their own.

“What struck me about United Response is the emphasis they place on the importance of everyone having a place in their community, and the opportunity to contribute to society. The charity provides support for diverse aspects of everyday life, from using public transport to managing finances, and finding employment,” Teresa said.

She hopes to raise £1,500 from the run and has come up with a number of creative ways to meet her fundraising target including auctioning her artwork, selling homemade soup, bread and flapjacks at work and securing a pledge from S&A Floral Design.

“My colleagues’ enthusiasm for Soup Wednesdays has been outstanding,” she said. “The recent introduction of Flapjack Friday has been equally as popular.”
