One of country's leading singing groups to join Louth choir for church concert
One of the country’s leading singing groups are to join the award-winning Louth Male Voice Choir for a concert in town next month.
The Mastersingers were formed primarily as a recording and backing ensemble of male voices. But they have evolved into their present format of four female and eight male singers – together with piano, percussion and bass accompaniment.
Over the years, the group have provided the backing for such well-known artistes as Ken Dodd, Cleo Laine, Roger Whittaker and Howard Keele, and have appeared regularly on BBC Radio 2 and also the Daily Service on BBC Radio 4.
The Mastersingers have performed too in concerts across the country and in Europe, and have recorded CDs at high-profile venues, ranging from the former Parr Street Studios (then owned by famous rock band Genesis) in Liverpool to the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London.

They are heading to Louth on Saturday, October 10 for a concert at 7 pm at St James’s Church on Westgate.
The group’s repertoire will include songs by superstars such as Billy Joel, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Stephen Sondheim and Beatles duo John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
Louth Male Voice Choir will similarly perform a varied range of songs, including ‘What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor?’ Their performance of this won them the sea shanty section at the Eskdale National Choirs Competition earlier this year.
Tickets for the show are priced £15 (free for under-18s) and are available from St James’s Church, as well the independent record store, Off The Beaten Tracks, on Aswell Street in Louth.
They can also be bought from the website, www.louthmvc.co.uk, or from Adrian Coy on 07920 237172.
