New life is being breathed into the former shop unit on Caroline Road, Metheringham by the Sellers family from nearby Thorpe Tilney, who are busy converting it into a restaurant and takeaway that is far more than just another fish and chip shop.

General Manager and Head Chef Jarrod Sellers, together with his mum Sharon and dad Phil, are behind the new venture - Cod’s Kitchen – but it is going to offer much more than simply fish and chips.

Jarrod said: “We have taken a five-year lease on the premises, which will operate as a fish and chip takeaway restaurant. The takeaway side will boast products of restaurant-standard, available for takeaway, whilst the restaurant will offer a variety of fantastic fresh fish dishes, by way of a more extensive menu at weekends. It will include locally-sourced Hereford beef steaks, homemade pies and vegetarian dishes.

“We are aiming to open by mid-November, if possible. We will be serving lunches, evening meals and afternoon teas – and offering a loyalty card scheme to encourage extra interest.”

He said: “Passers-by have already spotted us decorating our premises and we have had a rush of people enquiring about job opportunities,” said Jarrod.

The Sellers family, which shows British Limousin Crossbred cattle, live at Thorpe Tilney but originally hail from Derbyshire.

Cod’s Kitchen is Jarrod’s first business venture, but he is bringing 15 years of experience to the enterprise, having worked as a Head chef within the hospitality and catering industries and at a private school.

His mum Sharon Sellers said the family did plenty of research before choosing to boost facilities in Metheringham.

“We had a good look around the local area, including Lincoln, but we plumped for this property because of its size and location. Metheringham has a good catchment area, which has given us the confidence to create a 60-seater restaurant, as well as offering takeaway sales,” she said.

Cod’s Kitchen will also enjoy the bonus of on-site and off-road parking.

Harriet Hatcher of agents Banks Long and Co who arranged the lease agreement, said: “The Sellers have snapped-up what are highly-visible premises in this large Lincolnshire village. The new restaurant and takeaway are close to neighbouring traders and Cod’s Kitchen will also be ideally placed to catch the attention of passing trade.”
