Another podium for Louth star Hickman at the TT

More success for 14-times TT winner

After securing a fine second place in the Superbike race at the Isle of Man TT races on Sunday, Louth road racing star Peter Hickman was out in the three lap Supersport race on Tuesday and produced another podium with in a third place finish.

The weather once again interrupted the TT programme on Tuesday when it was expected that three races would be run during the course of the day.

Rain delayed the start of the Supersport race, which was due to start at 10am and then put back as the rain continued until it finally got underway at 3pm.

Riding the House of Swan Triumph 765 RS by PHR Performance, 14-times TT winner Hickman started the time trial in his usual 10th place.

The riders set out one at a time in 10 second intervals to race against the clock.

Hickman was running in fifth place at the Glen Helen checkpoint on the opening 37.75 lap around the public roads mountain course, and by the time he got to the run across the mountain he had made up ground to fourth.

Coming in for the required pit stop to refuel, he was delayed when the team struggled to get the fuel cap off.

Now playing catch-up Hickman got his head down to try to make up the time.

At the first checkpoint he was four seconds down in fifth place, but by the time he reached the second checkpoint he had made up the time and was back up into fourth.

The next task was to catch Paul Jordan, who was holding third place, but it was a big ask as he was eight seconds ahead on time.

Hickman kept going and brought the time down to just 1.8s as he crossed the line to start his final lap.

At Glen Helen he was ahead and into third place and went on to complete the race in third with an advantage of over 11.5s over Jordan to pick up another TT trophy to add to his rapidly growing collection.

He also surpassed his personal best lap time with a 127.215 mph lap time.

Hickman said: “I am really happy to get the Swan Triumph on the podium.

“Those were not my conditions at all out there. It is the wettest I have ever ridden the TT course.

“However, I don’t think, even if I was 100 per cent fit and it was perfectly dry, that the result would have been any different as Michael (Dunlop) and Dean (Harrison) were that bit faster than me.

“At the pit stop the fuel cap just wouldn't budge and the guys had to use the pliers to force it off.

“I did lose a lot of time, but even so it wouldn't have made any difference to the result and I am quite happy to just be on the podium.”

The rest of the day’s racing was eventually postponed as the rain set in again and it is hoped they can run them later in the week.
