Charles Read Academy celebrates positive Ofsted inspection
Charles Read Academy in Corby Glen, part of the David Ross Education Trust, has shared a positive Ofsted report with families and the whole school community.

Inspectors visiting the school highlight the academy's carefully designed curriculum, which focuses on building essential knowledge and ensuring that pupils make progress over time. The report notes that pupils "typically gain secure knowledge and skills across subjects" and produce work that demonstrates suitable progress through the curriculum.
The report also points to the academy’s work on literacy and the activities that run throughout the school day to support reading..
The inspection praises the academy's inclusive approach, noting the commitment to pupil wellbeing and belonging as a particular strength.
Ofsted highlight the enhanced systems leaders have developed to identify pupils who need greater support in academic work and in relation to their wellbeing, ensuring that students receive "the right support at the right time". The report also recognises the dedication of staff in supporting pupils' confidence and wellbeing, noting that pupils feel safe and know who to turn to if they have concerns.
Inspectors recognise the positive culture that has been established across the academy, describing a "calm and orderly environment that supports learning", with no disruption. They highlight the strength of the school's pastoral processes, particularly the house system, which helps to create a strong sense of belonging for pupils.
The report further recognises the academy's ambition for its young people and its focus on preparing pupils for successful futures. Ofsted praise the work carried out to raise aspirations through careers education, visiting speakers, trips and wider opportunities that broaden pupils' experiences. Inspectors note that pupils are becoming increasingly ambitious about their next steps and are developing important skills that help them work effectively with others and take responsibility for their actions.
Kerry Milligan Principal said, "We are particularly pleased that Ofsted recognise our inclusive approach, the strength of our pastoral care and the ambition we hold for every pupil. The report highlights the positive culture we have created, where pupils feel safe, supported and encouraged to achieve their very best.
"We are especially proud that inspectors point to the calm and orderly environment across the academy, the strength of our curriculum and the growing ambitions of our pupils for their futures. The recognition of the opportunities we provide through careers education, trips and wider experiences reflect our commitment to ensuring that every young person can develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to succeed.
"While we recognise there are areas where we must continue to improve, particularly around attendance, this report provides strong validation of the work taking place across the academy and our commitment to securing the very best outcomes for every young person."
Sue Jones, Executive Principal of Charles Read Academy, said: "We are very proud of our pupils, staff, governors and the wider school community. The academy remains firmly focused on continuing its improvement journey, building on the many strengths identified by inspectors and ensuring that every pupil benefits from a high-quality education, exceptional care and the opportunities needed to thrive both in school and beyond. This report recognises the relentless commitment of our team to ensuring every child is known, valued and supported to succeed.”
