One of Lincolnshire’s oldest chapels to go under the hammer
A former Wesleyan chapel that was built in 1814 and is one of Lincolnshire’s oldest Methodist chapels, is to be auctioned this month, with a guide price of £70,000.

The single-storey 1,200 sq ft brick-built property, in the village of Marton, near Gainsborough, will be included in the upcoming multi-lot timed auction held by BTG Eddisons Property Auctions, with bidding opening on 27 July and closing the following day.
The chapel had been in continuous use as a place of worship from its construction, over two centuries ago, until its recent closure.

Adrian Little, director at BTG Eddisons Property Auctions, said: “Small chapels like this gem in Marton are very much sought after as their dimensions lend themselves to conversion to a variety of imaginative and creative new uses.
“These can range from residential accommodation to workspaces or hospitality venues. We are already seeing plenty of interest in this historic property and look forward to seeing what happens at auction.”
He added: “Marton itself is a really quiet picturesque community. It’s well located for travel to Gainsborough, just three miles away, and Lincoln, and the former chapel is also just a short walk from a quiet, rural stretch of the River Trent which has several scenic footpaths popular with ramblers.”
