Year 5 and 6 pupils explore war years at school
Year 5 and 6 pupils at Market Rasen Church of England Primary School recently took part in a fantastic history workshop as part of their current topic on the Second World War.
The workshop was led by Dennis Marsden alongside historian Janet, who worked closely with the children to explore all aspects of the war, with a particular focus on its impacts and life in the post-war period.

Sessions like these help bring history to life, often through artefacts and first-hand exploration of real objects from the era, allowing pupils to deepen their understanding of the past, explained a school spokesperson.
Throughout the afternoon, pupils had the opportunity to handle artefacts, ask insightful questions and engage in meaningful discussions. They demonstrated excellent curiosity and enthusiasm, showing a growing understanding of how the war shaped life in Britain, including the challenges faced by individuals and communities in the years that followed.
The school said the workshop provided a valuable opportunity for the children to apply their learning and make links to post-war Britain, considering how society changed as a result of the conflict. It was a thoroughly engaging experience that enriched their historical knowledge and understanding.
