Plenty to see and do at Thimbleby heritage afternoon

St Margaret's Church is the '˜Jewel in the Crown' of the Thimbleby Conservation Area and this weekend there is a chance to learn more about its forthcoming restoration.

A free event this Sunday, March 19, will give people the opportunity to see plans for the new church spire, as well as celebrate all the history of the village.

Thimbleby boasts a number of thatched mud and stud cottages, which are of particular interest as they are of identical design to 17th century cottages in Jamestown, Virginia, suggesting a builder from this area must have travelled with the original settlers.

The Heritage Open Afternoon runs from 2.30pm and will also feature a display of church artefacts, a children’s treasure trail, a mud and stud building demonstration and history tours through the village.

To round off the event, the WI will be serving a free finger buffet tea from 4pm in the village hall.

As part of the heritage project, there is a competition to design a village coat of arms too, with a £100 prize up for grabs.

Find out more details and pick up entry forms on the day.

Entries must be in by March 27 at the latest.
