Celebrating volunteers at Evergreen Sleaford

A Sleaford-based charitable organisation which offers friendship to elderly people feeling isolated and living alone has held a celebration event for its volunteers.

Evergreen Sleaford has, for nearly 14 years, successfully served Sleaford and surrounding village communities in a 10-mile radius of the town.

The aim of Evergreen Sleaford, a charity, is for volunteers to become ‘befrienders’ and to form a one-to-one friendship with an elderly person who may be lonely and isolated.

The invaluable time given by Evergreen Sleaford volunteer befrienders and trustees was recognised at an afternoon tea for them on Saturday, June 6 coinciding with the end of National Volunteers Week 2026.

A wonderful time was had by all, eating delicious sandwiches, homemade cakes, strawberries and cream. Stories were shared about why volunteering for Evergreen Sleaford means so much to the volunteers such as “having a sense of purpose, providing comfort following bereavement, making new friends and bringing joy”.

The charity says the number of people needing its service is increasing and, unfortunately, they do not have enough volunteers to meet the need.

A spokesperson said: “It’s such a little thing to ask, but it means so much, so if you have time to give and want to make new friends, please get in touch.”
