Deadline day in De Aston's newsroom

Budding journalists at De Aston School have experienced what it is like to produce a newspaper within a day.

With a helping hand from lecturers and students from Lincoln University’s School of Journalism, as well as De Aston staff, 27 students from Years 7 to 13 worked together to compile the 16-page annual school newspaper,The De Aston Voice.

“It was a very hectic but rewarding day for everyone involved,” said Caroline Hobson, the school’s PR, marketing and communications officer.

“The team really pulled together and should be very proud of the finished product.”

The students had previously discussed story ideas and conducted interviews to gather information.

On the day itself, the library was set out like a newsroom.

A press conference was held with deputy head Simon Porter, and sixth form editor Rebecca Garbutt recapped the stories, came up with some new ideas and ensured deadlines were met.

“Newspaper day is really fun and gives you an insight into what it would be like to be a journalist. We all loved the experience,” said Year 7 student Amber Gill.
