The students have missed months of schools and had their exams cancelled because of Covid-19.

The Kirton school says their hard work in the run up to lockdown has not been in vain and the change in Government policy announced on Monday means the grades that academies submitted for each student have now been awarded.

Today they have received grades which reflect the effort they put in over the course of their time in education, as judged by their teachers, the school said, with staff and teachers at Thomas Middlecott Academy having worked extremely hard to make sure that the grading for every student is as fair as possible.

Jo Myhill-Johnson, headteacher, said: “I am incredibly proud of our Year 11 students. These have been unprecedented times for us all over the last few months but our students in this year group have demonstrated a strong work ethic and a high level of commitment to their studies throughout the academic year both in school and more latterly, working from home.

“I have been so impressed with their commitment to their ongoing studies, even beyond the end of the time when they should have taken their examinations as many of them continued to work hard until the end of the term on GCSE work as well as A Level and Level 3 transition work for 6th form or college.

“They very rightly deserve the fantastic grades they have achieved today. They have been superb representatives and ambassadors for Team TMA”

The school is part of the David Ross Education Trust, and its chief executive Stuart Burns said: “We are incredibly proud of all of our Year 11 students today – they have shown great resilience in the face of unprecedented uncertainty. There have been some outstanding results for individuals, notably Dzesika, Rebekah, Tess and Viltene.

“Clearly this year has been extremely challenging, and we are committed to supporting every student make the right decisions about their next step, whether that is into the right courses at 6th form or onto other destinations of choice.

“As well as my congratulations to each and every student, I want to pay tribute to our staff – none of this would have been possible without their outstanding support and tireless work to guide our students safely through the trials and tribulations of the recent months.”
