Covid-19 wardens to support businesses across West Lindsey

West Lindsey District Council, like many authorities across the county, have been allocated funding from Central Government to support compliance and enforcement activity.

The council has been allocated £46,000, which is being used to support Covid wardens in their role to engage, encourage and explain the current guidance to businesses across the district; and promote best practise around Covid-secure guidance.

The wardens are made up of existing staff as well as a number of agency staff and they will visit businesses to check that they are meeting the requirements, and to find out if they need any additional support in relation to them.

Wardens will not have powers to take enforcement action and the council would like to reassure businesses that they are there to provide support and to ensure they are operating safely.

Andy Gray, housing and enforcement manager at West Lindsey District Council, said: “We want the wardens to be seen as a supportive tool for businesses to help them to operate in line with the Covid Secure guidance.

"So far, we have checked 50 businesses and the vast majority are operating really well. Those that aren’t will be provided with advice on what they need to do.

"By doing this work across the district we hope to be able to ensure that the rate of infection decreases and we need every business and every resident to play their part to make this happen.”

New restrictions came into force on November 5, as part of the Government’s second national Lockdown which is expected to last until December 2.

West Lindsey District Council are committed to keep its residents safe and would like to remind everyone to keep washing their hands regularly, wear a face covering in all indoor settings and keep a safe distance of two metres from other people.
