Market Rasen Gardening Club

The first meeting of the new year saw members of Market Rasen Gardening Club welcome Neil Timm as speaker, with a talk entitled Astride the Fence (A garden full of weeds).

The meaning of the title soon became apparent as Neil showed slides of wild flowers that he prefers to grow in his garden.

The chairman thanked Margaret Allerston for organising the annual lunch, which took place on January 10.

Members were reminded that Bob Flowerdew was coming to talk at Woodhall Spa in April. It is open to all.

The date of the spring show and annual meeting has been brought forward by one week to March 15.

This year, the three-way quiz will be at Woodhall Spa. The team is Margaret Allerston, Kathy Drake and Cecile Povey. A reserve is required.

The chairman announced with great regret that founder member Marion Cooper had died. The club will be giving a donation to St Thomas’ Church in her memory.

Derek Anderson said he was opening his garden on August 6 as part of the Rotary Open Gardens, and invited other members to do the same.

The next meeting will be in the Methodist church school room on February 23 at 7.15pm, when Don Whitton will give a talk on People, Plants, Pleasure and Passion.
