A '˜spooky' flower display at Spilsby and other Neighbourhood News

Spilsby Flower Club's latest meeting saw members enjoying a demonstration from Pauline Foster - who is pictured above with her Halloween floral display. Pauline gave a demonstration with talk to entertain and tips about flowers and greenery - she used a variety of fresh flowers in all of the six arrangements.

The club’s next meeting is on Tuesday, November 20, at 7pm, when Nick Grounds will be giving a demonstration entitled ‘The Bah Humbug’. This takes place at King Edward VI Academy, West End, Spilsby.

Entry is £8 for visitors and £2 for members.

* Daughters of Destiny

Places are still available for women of all ages to join us for the Daughters of Destiny Annual Conference 2018 on Saturday, November 17, from 10am to 3pm at Burgh Baptist Church.

The conference is aimed at empowering women, this Christian event will include guest speakers Debbie Macdonald and Fiona Kirby-Smith of Scunthorpe Baptist Church and a two course lunch. Please book to assist with catering arrangements by contacting Mandy on 07807 330643.

Burgh Community Debt Advice Centre has trained advisors to offer free advice ranging from simple budgeting to cases of insolvency including Debt Relief Orders, Individual Voluntary Arrangements and Bankruptcy. * Phoenix Group

The Phoenix Group offers support and friendship for those facing loneliness from various circumstances, and prayer is available if desired. The group also enjoys outings to different venues and guest speakers from time to time. Meetings are held on Wednesdays from 10.30am to 12noon at Burgh Baptist Community Church.

Knit and Natter offers the chance to enhance your needlework or share your skills while meeting new people. The group meets on Thursdays from 2pm to 4pm at Burgh Baptist Community Church. More details from Colin on 811260.

Burgh Baptist Community Church hosts a coffee morning every Friday from 10am to 12pm where Parish Nurse Mandy Smith and her team are available for health support and advice, and prayer if desired.

Scones and hot drinks are available along with a warm welcome.

* Coffee Morning

A coffee morning in aid of Children in Need will take place tomorrow (Thursday) at the Wesley Room at Burgh Methodist Church.

There will be refreshments, a raffle and more. Please come and support this annual event.

Wednesday afternoons offer music and fitness at Burgh Baptist Community Church. Dance yourself fit to a variety of music from 2pm to 3pm, and step lively for line dancing from 3pm to 4pm.

Beginners’ tuition is available.

* Christmas Fayre

A Christmas Fayre in aid of St Peter and Paul Church will take place on Saturday, December 1, in the village hall at 2pm.

There will be a grand raffle, hamper raffle, tombola, books, CDs etc, cakes and preserves, a bottle stall, and more, plus lovely refreshments.

* Women’s Institute

President Jo welcomed 20 members to the November meeting.

Their speakers for the evening were John Ghest from the Mission to Seafarers, and Pauline Ghest from the charity the WI has been supporting for months - Boston Women’s Refuge.

Both John and Pauline shared their very different experiences which the members found very interesting. This was followed by tea, coffee, cakes and chat.

Members then had the business part of the evening: Two birthday gifts were given, and competition winners were announced.

Flower of the month: First place went to Chris Padley; second place was Jane Holmes, and third place was Anne Fox.

The winners in the ‘Knitted hat for a seafarer’ competition were: First place Anne Fox, second place Judith Stevens, and third place Jane Holmes.

Croft Marsh and District WI meets the second Thursday of every month. They do not have a speaker for their December meeting as it is ‘party night’.
