Schaffarczyk, of Shakespeare Street, Newark, pleaded guilty to driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving without insurance after the incident on May 23.

The defendant said he had finished work and because a colleague’s car would not start he decided to drive his dad’s van.

Magistrates fined Schaffarczyk £325 and ordered him to pay £35 costs and a £32.50 victim surcharge.

He was given eight points on his licence and banned from driving for 12 months.
