East Barkwith round-up

Gardeners’ outing - Members and friends of the Barkwith and District Gardeners’ Association visited the Swiss Garden at Shuttleworth.

There was plenty of time to explore the two acres of beautiful grounds and the quaint Swiss-style wooden buildings, including a very small chapel and a larger wooden building, which was the venue for a wedding.

Shuttleworth is also the home of vintage aircraft and vehicles.

There was also the opportunity to visit the workshops and see the restoration work in progress on vehicles and aircraft.

Mystery surrounds the next coach outing tomorrow (Thursday, June 30) as only Les and the driver will be aware of their destination.

This is the second mystery trip on this year’s programme, with the first being to Derbyshire.

Council - Coun Andrew Platt was elected chairman of the East and West Barkwith Parish Council at the annual meeting held in the village hall, when three members of the public joined the five councillors present.

There had been no applications from anyone interested in filling the vacancy caused by the resignation of Moira Tongue; Kimberley Brechons volunteered and was co-opted.

Money collected by East Barkwith WI to obtain a water boiler for the village hall had been passed to the parish council to purchase it.

There were numerous expenses approved, including many on behalf of the village history group, which meets at the Cross Roads Inn, and other requests for payment from the street party committee, which had been set up to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, with the council covering the costs.
