Employment figures improve in East Lindsey, official figures show

The latest figures, released this morning (March 16), show that there are 1831 people claiming unemployment benefits in the district, compared to 2165 claimants 12 months ago. This represents a reduction of 18.7 per cent,

At the Louth Job Centre - which serves jobseekers in Louth, Horncastle, Mablethorpe and surrounding villages - the latest figures show that there are currently 337 unemployment benefit claimants, compared to 369 claimants 12 months ago. This represents a reduction of 8.7 per cent.

Across the East Midlands, there are 19,000 more people employed than 12 months ago, and 9,600 fewer people claiming unemployment benefits.

Employment Minister Priti Patel said: “This is another strong set of figures showing private sector employment at the highest since records began, wages rising and a near record number of job vacancies available in the UK economy. This strength is a real credit to hard-working people and businesses alike.

“In the East Midlands the employment level is now 150,000 higher than in 2010, and the employment rate is higher than the national average.

“With unemployment now standing at 5.1 per cent - half the Eurozone average - it’s clear that we are delivering on our promise to support people to get on in life, and create greater economic security for all.”

A separate set of figures, also released today, show over 400,000 people have now made a claim to Universal Credit – with around 10,000 new claims being made to the new benefit every week.
