Faulty electric blankets can be very dangerous; they can cause serious fires that could damage properties or worse still, cause serious injury or death to users or other people in the home.

Don’t take the risk - get your electric blanket tested. You can take your electric blankets to be tested in the Isle at Crowle Local Link, High Street from noon to 1pm; and Epworth Wesley Memorial Church from 2.30pm to 4pm on Wednesday September 23.

The council’s Trading Standards team carries out the safety checks yearly to make sure peoples’ electric blankets are safe to use.

You don’t need to book an appointment, just drop-in at any of the sessions.

Councillor Neil Poole, cabinet member for Neighbourhoods, said: “If you have an electric blanket, we would strongly advise you to get it tested. We have many different sessions available for you to bring your electric blanket to. It’s always better to be safe than sorry. It won’t take long and will give you the reassurance that your electric blanket is safe to use.

“Just because you used your blanket last year or earlier on in the year doesn’t mean it is safe. In previous years when we have tested blankets faults have included, lack of overheat protection and faulty wiring. Make sure you get your blanket tested.”
