Grants up for grabs to worthycauses in Isle

Community groups and individuals who want to further sporting talents across the Isle will have more chance of financial support from North Lincolnshire Council soon.

Plans have been announced to increase the North Lincolnshire Council community grant fund by £200,000 to £700,000 this year.

Since April this year 19 community groups and sporting individuals across the Isle have taken advantage of grant help that is available, for projects totalling nearly £80,000.

The community grant pot has allocated over £1.5 million over the past three years, awarding cash amounts to community groups across North Lincolnshire.

Coun Liz Redfern said: “We have managed to support a great number of fantastic groups across the Isle and now we have been able to increase the amount available to community groups and sporting individuals.”

She continued: “More recently we have provided £15,000 to the Crowle and Ealand Playing Fields Association for works in the pavilion, and £2,900 to Owston Ferry Methodist Church Hall to replace a boiler and £7,920 to the Imperial Hall in Epworth for its regeneration. This grant is supporting a great deal of good work and now because of our decision we will be able to help more groups and individuals in the coming months.”

Isle MP Andrew Percy said: “The Community Grant pot is making a massive difference. Groups and individuals often make contact with me for advice and support on funding projects, and since the Community Grant pot was overhauled in 2011, Liz and her team have been able to fund some great initiatives. The extra £200,000 will mean that even more projects across the Isle can benefit.”

Members of Belton Bowls Club were among recent recipients and were able to purchase a new lawn mower as a result of their award.

Other Isle concerns to have benefited include Belton Brownies and Guides, who received £600 each, Epworth Imperial Hall, £7,920 for regeneration, Epworth Ladies’ Netball Club, for training and equipment worth £2,330, and Epworth Music Day, that was given £1,670.
