7 Lakes Country Park in Ealand will again be hosting the annual Xtreme Challenge Event later this month.

The fourth running of the increasingly popular event involves participants completing a six mile long circuit around the park – taking in obstacles including skips filled up with water, mud filled holes, straw bale jumps and more.

The event raises funds for the National Fire Fighters charity and is organised by Humberside Fire & Rescue, HFR Solutions, 7 Lakes and Epworth running shop Metres to Miles.

John Armson of HFR Solutions has seen the event grow year on year, he said: “This year the event will be a sell-out.

“It’s grown in popularity over the last four years thanks to events like Tough Mudder and Tough Guy and this is a great step up towards doing those.”

The event has a strong local appeal but also draws interest from much further afield. Of the 500 or more participants taking part this year some will be travelling from as far afield as Teeside, Skegness and Northampton. Many have completed the event in previous years, but even those people can expect some new surprises, as Gary Smith of 7 Lakes explained: “We are opening up and landscaping new areas of the park and whilst having the machinery on site we managed to create a few new surprise obstacles.

“You’d better like mud and make sure you wear old kit – that’s all I’m prepared to share in case I spoil the surprise.”

For many this is the first event they’ve entered and this year there are more teams entered than before - friends, work colleagues, football and pub teams will be taking part.

Anyone still wanting to enter the event, which takes place on Saturday May 23 from 11am, can do so via the website www.metrestomiles.co.uk, just go to the Events page. Entries cost £15.
