It's a diamond celebration for Caistor '˜royalty'

A weekend of celebrations has marked the diamond wedding anniversary of well-known Caistor couple Robina and Louis King.

Both are aged 84 and they celebrated their 60 years of marriage with an open house on Saturday, followed by a family party on Sunday.

The couple met at the youth club in Caistor and married at Westgate Methodist Church on August 15, 1956.

Louis’s best man was his twin brother David and Robina’s bridesmaids were her sister Shirley Cook (Wright) and Louis’s sister Ruth King (Sutton).

Robina carried a bouquet of sweet peas and carnations.

The wedding was conducted by the Rev Frank Amery.

Arthur and Richard King were the groomsmen.

Following the wedding service, a reception was held in the chapel school room and the couple spent a night in London before flying to Jersey for 10 days.

Louis joined the family butcher business and Robina worked in the town’s Stepnall Stores, then as an occupational therapy helper at Caistor Hospital.

Louis has been Mayor of Caistor five times and was chairman of Caistor Civic Society until 2015.

He is also chairman of the Caistor Branch of the Royal British Legion and organises the annual poppy appeal.

Louis and his brother David are the longest serving members of Caistor and District Male Voice Choir.

Robina and Louis have three children; Helen (55), Ann (53) and Jane (50), plus six grandchildren.

Robina said: “We’ve had our ups and downs and we sometimes agree to differ.”

Louis added: “We are still as happy as the day we married.”
