Cheering her on at the presentation were girls from the first Retford Rainbows and Brownies along with members of first Ordsall Guides.

The Young Leaders in Service Awards is a nationwide scheme run by the Lions Clubs International and recognises young people between the ages of 11 and 18 who provide exceptional service to their communities. Awards are sponsored by Lions Clubs at a local level, with the Silver Seal Award given to young people who provide at least 50 hours of service to the community during a 12-month period.

Sophie was given a log book in which to record her community work, which shows that most of her 50 hours of service were dedicated to running the activities and weekly meetings of the first Ordsall Guide Unit.

She was presented with her certificate and a personal letter from the Lions Clubs International President during an evening hosted by Girlguiding Notts’ Retford Division Commissioner Helen Page.
