“Bright balloons were released and the children then all played on the playground.”

Kathy met Roxi through work and following her death wanted to do something to honour her memory.

Kathy said: “We had lots of ideas put forward and her husband liked the idea of a new playground because she was a brilliant mum and loved children.”

“We have been raising money for almost a year to build a play area in Misterton as a lasting legacy of Roxi’s love of children.”

“We started fundraising last August and over the year we have held all sorts of events.”

Events included a sponsored head shave, a waxing event, car boot sales, a Night at the Oscars ball and a performance from The Torn.

Kathy added: “Lots of people have supported events over the past year.”

To raise further funds a group of people are taking part in Wild Thing.

This is a 10km obstacle course in Wild Park, in Brailsford, Derbyshire taking place on Sunday 8th September.

The course features water slides, mud swamps, cargo nets, hay bales, quick sand, assault courses and a hilly terrain.

The money raised from Wild Thing will go towards any additional extras for the playground.
