Spotlight on Skegness Musical Theatre Company ahead of colourful 2026 production

Skegness Musical Theatre Company is preparing to return to the stage with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, promising a colourful and energetic show for audiences.

The company, ormerly known as Skegness Operatic Society, has been entertaining local audiences since 1922 with a mix of large-scale musical productions and smaller touring shows.

Last year saw members move into a new home at the auditorium at Skegness Academy, where they staged a well-received production of Sweeney Todd.

This year’s cast will feature a mix of long-standing members and new faces, including newcomer Sonny Allen in the lead role of Joseph.

Sonny said he was “grateful for the opportunity” to take on the part, adding that fellow members have been supportive and welcoming.

Behind the scenes, the production team includes Steve Walker as Musical Director, Lisa Jay Walker as choreographer and Jo Fitzwilliams as director and producer.

They are joined by Andrea Hall as stage manager, who is the longest-serving current member of the company and has previously taken on leading roles as well as directing productions.

Andrea highlighted the importance of local theatre, saying she believes amateur productions continue to play a key role in the town’s cultural scene.

She said the company enjoys taking performances out into the community through village hall tours, while their base at Skegness Academy allows them to provide accessible, high-quality entertainment for local audiences.

Performances of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will take place from May 28 to 30.
