Run by Isle couple Ian and Jeannette McConnachie, Oceans 52 sells super-fresh fish that, unusually, can be grilled to order if preferred. Wet fish is sold too, and the McConnachies’ special batter is renowned across the Isle, along with a gluten-free batter that is available to those who suffer from allergy.

All hot choices at Oceans 52 are fried in the best vegetable medium, and you can buy home-made fish cakes, succulent lamb kebabs, chicken and grilled burgers within many options. Hand-made five ounce burgers are among the specialities.

Pukka pies are available in a range of flavours, along with jacket potatoes and different fillings, fresh salad boxes and traditional steamed steak and kidney puddings.

Customers can also take advantage of lunchtime meal deals, special children’s menus that include free toys in serving boxes, and vegetarian options. There is something to suit everyone.

Son-in-law Paul is part of Ian and Jeannette’s cheery team of workers, along with long-serving staff member Sharon, and servers Tia, Joanne and Anne.

Later this year, Oceans 52 is to be expanded to the side, and will offer seating for up to 16 people, to allow customers to sit with meals and a pot of tea in warmth and comfort.

The McConnachies like to be involved in community life within the Isle and are supporters of the Lex’s Legacy fund and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice. A memorial bench painted green, which was the late Alexander Strong’s favourite colour, is placed outside the shop for people to sit and rest a while.

Opening times at Oceans 52 are from 4.45 to 8pm on Mondays, 11.30am to 1.30pm and 4.45pm to 8.30pm from Tuesday to Friday, then on Saturdays from 11.30am to 1.45pm and 4.30pm to 8pm.

Ian and Jeannette take great pride in the cleanliness of their shop and quality of food. They have long experience in the trade after running a smaller shop prior to coming to Epworth 10 years ago.

Ian said: “We love being here and being part of the community. We believe we are one of the most recognised fish and chip shops across the area and have customers travelling here from quite a way away.” Enjoy your free chips from Oceans 52 any time from today (March 26) to next Wednesday April 1.
