WEATHER WARNING: Gale-force winds set to batter region

Winds are expected to reach up to almost 50mph over the next 24 hours, accompanied by persistent heavy rain.

With gusts getting up to 20mph and heavy showers predicted until 9pm tonight, it will only be the start of the inclement conditions with rain forecast all-day Sunday.

However, gale-force winds are expected and will reach up to 49mph by late morning.

Temperatures will reach up to 10c, and only drop to 4c overnight so no ground frost is predicted.

But while the winds may die down as we move into Monday, there looks to be no end in sight for the rain which expected to continue until Tuesday evening.
