Worksop: Student organises ‘Great British Cake Off’ at golf club

The event was organised by student and part-time employee Darcy Birkin.

As part of her studies, Darcy was tasked with organising a fundraiser and came up with the idea of asking members and fellow employees at Worksop Golf Club to bake a cake. Darcy told members that the cakes would be judged on their appearance, flavour and moisture and given a score out of 45.

“I was apprehensive about organising the event at first and wondered how it would all work out,” Darcy said.

“I am grateful to my colleagues and all the members who worked really hard, as well as buying raffle tickets, helping to make the day so successful.”

“It was a fantastic atmosphere at the club and everyone enjoyed themselves.”

Alan Mansbridge, secretary manager at Worksop Golf Club, said: “Darcy, who has worked for the club part-time for the past six months, she came to me with the idea of completing her college assignment while fundraising for Westwood Care Home.”

“We were keen to support her and many of the members pulled out all the stops to bake some fantastic creations, which we were allowed to buy and sample.”

“Hopefully Darcy has learned a lot and we are very appreciative that our members and fellow employees helped her achieve her goal.”

The event raised £460 which was presented to Joanne Craven, administrator at Westwood, the next day.
