Grimsby Knock Out: Louth CC to play prelim round winners

Louth could face new opponents as the Grimsby Town Knock Out returns for its 79th year.

Increasing interest in the competition has meant the addition of another game as nine teams compete for the trophy in 2016.

The loss of their ground has forced popular Hull team Fenner to disband, making room for the welcome return of Yorkshire League side Appleby Frodingham after several years’ absence.

And with an application also received from Woodhall Spa, this has brought the numbers up to nine, resulting in the need for a preliminary round.

The draw, which took place at Augusta Street, saw Appleby Frodingham pitted against Messingham in this opening match on Monday, June 6.

Louth will meet the winners of this tie in the quarter-finals on June 20, while holders Lincs Cavaliers play the Lincolnshire Development XI and Cleethorpes are drawn against Caistor.

In the final first round match, hosts Grimsby Town are up against newcomers Woodhall - an all Lincolnshire ECB Premier League clash.

Matches will once again be played with pink balls and teams will be encouraged to wear coloured clothing.

Entry will be free for Grimsby Town CC members, with a charge for non-members.

Details of membership can be obtained from the club on (01472) 355999 (evenings).

Knock Out Draw: June 6: Appleby Frodingham v Messingham; June 13 Lincs Cavaliers v Lincs Development XI; June 20 Louth v Appleby Frodingham or Messingham; June 27 Cleethorpes v Caistor; July 4 Grimsby Town v Woodhall Spa.

First semi-final July 11; Second semi-final July 18. Final July 25.
