Competition for places to hot up at Gainsborough Trinity as players return

Gainsborough manager Steve Housham believes that there will be more competition for places now that a number of sidelined players are back in first team action.

Stephen Brogan returned from suspension to play a full 90 minutes in the victory over Brackley on Tuesday night, whilst long term absentee Adam Quinn featured in the a matchday squad for the first time this year.

The Brackley game also marked the last game which Nathan Jarman had to sit out of his ban.

All eyes were on Quinn though after recovering from a hernia operation he had in December.

Speaking about the former Halifax centre half, Housham said: “It would have been a gamble to put Quinny straight back in the side but it is great to have him back on board.

“Quinny is likely to feature in a game next Tuesday here in an under 21 game which will get him some minutes on board as all he has done so far is a couple of training sessions, so hopefully we will get him a game there to get him ready for us.

“We had five players in the stand for the Bradford game that would probably get in anyone’s first team.

“They are slowly, gradually coming back. We have Jarman back now for the Hednesford game and there will only be Matty Wilson sat in the stands for a month or so.

“With him coming back it puts not pressure on players but competition for places and they’ve got to be on their toes as a lot of them have been in their comfort zones.”
