Horncastle Town's successful run is ended at Fulbeck

Horncastle Town's fine run of results came to a halt on Saturday as they went down 3-1 at Fulbeck United in the Lincolnshire League Premier Division on Saturday.

Fulbeck took an early lead but the Wongers were denied equalisers by the woodwork and some good goalkeeping.

The second half followed a similar pattern as it started to look like being one of those days for Town.

And Fulbeck exposed gaps at the back to score twice more before Aiden Willerton’s late consolation.

Keanan Ballaam, Jamie Lewis and Harry Stubbs scored the Fulbeck goals.

Joint Horncastle manager Lewis Burchnall said: “Saturday was a bit of a reality check for us.

“We’ve been on an incredible run - unbeaten in six with five of those being wins - but from early in the game it looked like it was going to be one of those days on Saturday.

“We went behind within the first few minutes, but generally have responded well to setbacks this season.

“And even though we weren’t playing well we had chances to equalise, hitting the woodwork and forcing saves from the keeper.

“Nearly everything we’ve hit for the last few weeks has been finding the net, so maybe we were due a day where it doesn’t quite happen for us in front of goal.

“The second half didn’t get much better unfortunately and Fulbeck did well to exploit the gaps we left looking to get back in the game.”

He added: “It was good to see Aiden Willerton on the scoresheet again with a brave header, but it was only a consolation in the end.

“We’ve no game at the weekend - our next fixture is at home on Tuesday, 10th November against Lincoln United Development.

“We drew 2-2 with them a few weeks ago so will expect another tough game.”

On Saturday, 14th November, the Wongers then travel to Spilsby Town.

Horncastle Reserves made it four wins in a row and climbed to fifth in the league table with a 1-0 victory over Swineshead Institute at the weekend.

Town were under the cosh for the first half and needed keeper Harry Masters to come to the rescue with a brilliant penalty save.

The second half was much better and it was Ed Chambers who finally broke the deadlock with a strike from distance.

The reserves welcome Swineshead back to The Wong this Saturday in the cup.
