Jack Holmes justifies starting role as Boston United win again
Jack Holmes turned in another excellent display for Boston United after starting Saturday's 2-1 win over derby rivals Scunthorpe United to win man of the match and back up other good recent showings off the bench.
With the Pilgrims struggling of late, some fans had been calling for the lively forward to start – and he more than paid off their and manager Paul Hurst's faith in him.

“It's nice I have backed it up as people wanted me to play and I could have been a bit average or below the bar,” he said.
“So it's nice to go and back up what I think I can do, and obviously what some other people think I can do, and I am really happy.
“We knew we needed to back up what we did on Tuesday – and we've done that.
“So it's a really good feeling and long may it continue.
“It was good to go two up front and I think it showed the confidence in us in the way we were playing.
“It helped when we were backs against the wall a little bit to have a two goal cushion to help us out.
“Even though they got a dodgy goal, it helped us out and saw us through the game.”
Tom Cursons again scored a brace on Saturday, the second of which he successfully took on with possibly better options to the side of him.
“Tom has been really good. I am glad he scored his second goal as I think me and Lenell (John-Lewis) would have been fuming as he was making a run on the outside,” smiled Holmes.
“But it was a great finish to be fair to him.
“When he shot I thought it was brave, but then I saw it go in off the inside of the post.
“I am glad he's feeling confident as that's what he can do.
“He is starting to show why he's here and what he can do and I am buzzing for him.”
He added: “I think we were front foot most of the game. We had a bit of a slower start to the second half, but in the end I think we just grew into the game.
“Scunthorpe had obviously had a rocket at half-time. So it was nice to take the game to them instead of just sinking and sinking.
“I think you could see it in everyone's performance how confident we are and I hope it continues.
“The gaffer said in the changing rooms that we deserved a better-looking scoreline which I'd agree with.
“We were confident and front-footed with a lot of attacks and I thought we kept them to minimal chances.
“It would have been nice to get a few more goals, but a win's a win.”
Boston are without a game this coming weekend and Holmes admitted: “It's a good thing to get some rest in, but also I think if you asked everyone I think we'd want to carry on with the league games and keep churning away.
“Hopefully in the next one we can just continue what we've done this week.
“Personally I would love to have another game in the league next Saturday and next Tuesday and another Saturday. But we are just going to have to turn up when the next league game comes.”
