Lincolnshire Football League: Market Rasen Town sink to bottom with Hykeham defeat

Rasen slipped back to the bottom of the Lincolnshire Football League on Saturday with their 10th defeat of the season at Sills and Betteridge Team of the Month, Hykeham Town.

The fixture had been scheduled for Rase Park, but was switched to give it more chance of being played after recent wet weather.

Fresh from their county cup success at Wyberton, Hykeham secured a 3-1 win with goals from Josh Raby, Christopher Funnell and Matthew Easton. Jake Wade scored the Rasen consolation.

* The defeat was compounded by Ruston Sports’ 2-2 draw at home to Cleethorpes Development Squad which lifted them above Rasen.

Lincoln-based Ruston ended a barren spell of eight games without a point thanks to goals from John Waugh and Ian Ward.

The Seasiders had goals from Jacob Wilson and Sam Walker to thank for their point.

* Up at the top, Shaun Popple’s third league goal of the season was enough to secure three points for leaders Sleaford Town Reserves.

With Wyberton going down to their second league defeat of the season, the 1-0 home win over Skegness United extended Sleaford’s lead at the top of the table to six points.

* The Lincoln Railway goal machine Simon Mowbray continues to lead the chase for the golden boot as he sunk Wyberton.

His latest brace of goals, taking his league tally to 19, helped the Railmen to climb into second spot with a 3-2 home win.

Mowbray has twice the number of goals of his nearest rivals from nine games as the league enters the second half of the season.

* Nadir Boulaid opened his account to help Horncastle Town leapfrog their East Lindsey rivals CGB Humbertherm.

Horncastle have failed to score more than once in the league all season, having found the back of the net only six times in 10 league games.

But they have one of the meanest defences, making one goal enough to secure the spoils.
