Toyne laments worst possible luck

His Dinnington Town side were beaten 4-0 at Eccleshill United, a side two places below them in the NCEL Division One table.

But the Phoenix Park men were gutted by injuries and players unavailable, and once they did kick-off, it all went pear shaped.

Toyne explained: “We had no players, I had to spend five hours on the phone on Tuesday to try and get a side out.”

“Matt Smith went over on his ankle so couldn’t play, Andy Sykes is still out, Greg Taylor and both Jon and Jamie Roper couldn’t play.”

“At 0-0 Martin Wade did his hamstring again, and then a centre-half we brought in scored in his own net from 20 yards.”

The second goal was even more unfortunate for Town.

“Our keeper has cleared it, it’s struck the hands of one of their players and sailed back into the net, unbelieveable really,” said Toyne.

“The ref gave them a penalty when I thought Matt Lepianka took the ball as clean as a whistle, and the fourth has hit one of our players and gone in.”

“It was a patched up side and a bit of a shambles.”

Town are back in action on Saturday, when they visit mid-table Teversal.

Toyne hopes to have reinforcements in place.

“We’re going to make a signing or two this week, and we should be closer to full strength,” he added.
