Horse-racing ‘Tip Of The Day’ — Monday December 31

With the rain refusing to relent, there are inspections wherever you look today. So it’s fingers crossed that the meeting at Punchestown goes ahead, enabling our resident tipster to sign off for 2012 with a winner.

YOU MUST KNOW ME

Punchestown 12.35 WIN

When Henry De Bromhead’s six-year-old made his fencing debut at Navan two weeks ago, all the focus of attention was on the laboured performance of the winner, Boston Bob, who is regarded as potentially the best chaser in the yard of champion Irish trainer Willie Mullins. But it might just have been that this horse, who ran him to half a length, is much better than was acknowledged beforehand. Related to former top-class chaser Waterloo Boy, he went into the race on the back of only four previous runs, yet gamely tried to make all, jumping well and tenaciously refusing to accept defeat when the favourite challenged and edged to the front. An out-and-out galloper, he is sure to relish today’s stamina-sapping step-up to 3m and should provide his new owners, Alan and Ann Potts, with an immediate return on their investment.

MAY I take this opportunity to wish all Raceline readers a Happy New Year!
