In the first match at Bourne where the course consisted of woodland paths and tracks, Emma Penson completed the 6K challenge in 46th place and followed this with an improved 40th position at the end of the 6.6k undulating parkland course at Grantham’s Belton House.

On Sunday James Roark opened his cross country season by contesting the Junior, Senior and Veteran Men’s 9.7k two-lap race in dry but bitterly cold conditions, finishing strongly and sprinting into the finish funnel in a very commendable 40th position.

Matthew Lewis ran in the under 13 contest in both match one and match two and claimed the same 15th position at the end of both races.

Running over 3k at Bourne and 3.3k at Belton Park, Matthew found the going especially tough in Sunday’s cold windy conditions, but gave a reasonable account of himself against stronger opposition.

In Bourne Woods the previous weekend in warm dry conditions, Flynn Slater finished a very worthy 11th in the under 13 boys’ competition.

At under 11 level over 1,950m in Bourne Woods, Jessica Frick ran in a very promising 11th place and, in a larger field of starters at Belton, completed the 1,400m test in 26th position.

In the same age group Alex Frick was 22nd in the first match and 33rd in match two on Sunday.

At Bourne Jacob Slater produced a good run finishing the under 11 competition in good form to claim a very promising 12th place.
