World trials champion Emma Bristow makes 2016 bow in Yorkshire

The Alford rider, who retained her women’s world motorcycle trials title last year, took part in the opening round of the British Extreme Enduro championship/FIM European Extreme Cup.

Wet and wild conditions greeted the riders at what was described as the toughest-ever course at Tong, in Yorkshire, as high water levels, waterlogged ground, slippery rocks and deep ruts changed the course on every lap.

Bristow, the only female competitor up for this year’s challenge, guided her 250cc four-stroke Sherco to a creditable 18th in the experts class despite a big crash on the notorious waterfall section which lost her a few places on the final lap.

“I’ve enjoyed my day. Events like this are great for experience, fitness and perfect preparation for further extreme events in the future, she said.

“These races are fast and tough, but I feel they are making me stronger.

“I can only work to improve for the next round which I’ve been told is more technical and will suit my riding style.

“I love the atmosphere at these extreme events and thank everyone for cheering me on and pointing out the lines.”

Bristow will now travel to Spain for some intense winter training.
