Tennis aces collect their trophies

The Bombay Brasserie Winter Singles Leagues drew to a close at the end of March and the presentations were made to the competitors.

Boston Tennis Club captain Richard Cozens presented the players with their trophies at the awards evening at the Sleaford Road club.

Jeremy George- Jones completed the double for the second consecutive year – he not only retained his title as the winner of the Bombay Brasserie Daytime Singles League but also regained the main Bombay Brasserie Singles League.

Toby Collett was runner-up in the main League with Pawel Aranin named as the most consistent player.

Phil Cosgriff was runner up in the Daytime Singles League.

Sue Burnett also successfully defended her title as the leading lady in the Daytime League.

Diane Sharpe won the award for being the most consistent player in the Daytime League.

Junior awards in the Bombay Brasserie Leagues were presented to Trent Hutson – the Yellow Ball League winner- and George Wookey – the runner-up.

Reece Anderson-Doherty was the most consistent player.

In the Green League Isabel Wookey and James Burrell were the winner and runner-up.

James Gedney and Will Pettitt took the winner and runner-up trophies in the Orange ball League up.

The Boston Tennis Club Seniors have played several matches in the Lincolnshire Slazenger Summer League.

In Division One, Boston Men’s Ray Frankish, James Newton, Jeremy George-Jones and Simon Bush had a 4-0 win against Appleby Frodingham.

Against Scotter Ray Frankish, David Makins, James Newton and Chris Cook had a 4-0 result.

The Ladies’ first team also had a trip to Scunthorpe in Division One of this League to play Appleby Frodingham in the first match of the season.

The team of Jenny McGarel, Rachel Hawkesworth, Linda Barrow and Sue Burnett gained a very worthy draw from this very useful opposition.

The Ladies’s Seconds have two wins to their credit.

Catherine Ellis, Joan Beale, Helen Cook and Gilly Dunn conceded nothing when the team played Bourne Seconds.

A similar story emerged for the Men’s Second team when the team played Grantham seconds, a 4-0 result for Andy Clamp, Richard Hart, Chris Cook and David Makins.

A former Boston Tennis Club member has been handed a top role in sports development Down Under.

Paul Cammack is set to take on the role of Director of Participation at Tennis Australia.

Former Boston Grammar School pupil Paul has previously overseen a $700m Melbourne Park redevelopment in his role as Redevelopment and Places to Play Manager for the governing body.

Paul said: “Tennis provides opportunities for social interaction, health, learning positive behaviours and so much more.

“Everybody deserves these opportunities and the Participation team, in partnership with our Member Associations, will make the sport easier to access and provide products that meet market demands.
