Lightwaves evening finale cancelled due to the storm – but daytime event continues
Forecasted high winds and rain from Storm Boelo forced organisers to cancel the Lightwaves evening finale event in Sutton-on-Sea on Saturday (October 24) but a scaled-back event went ahead during the day before the weather deteriorated.
In a statement on social media, East Lindsey District Council said: “Sadly, due to safety concerns caused by the stormy weather forecast, we’ve had to make the difficult decision to cancel the Lightwaves evening finale in Sutton-on-Sea.”

However, they said bringing the community together remains at the heart of Story Tellers, so a smaller daytime event in Sutton-on-Sea town centre saw local residents enjoy lantern displays at the Methodist Church, a silent disco and open air dance performances adapted to the conditions, giving the community a chance to enjoy a little Lightwaves magic.
The organisers, Story Tellers Lincs, commented: “It might have looked a little different, but the spirit of Lightwaves was shining just as brightly.”
Three earlier stages of the Lightwaves festival had been previously held at Spilsby, Chapel St Leonards and Sandilands.
