Heritage open day at Dogdyke Pumping Station for all the family

The ever-popular Dogdyke Pumping Station at Tattershall is joining in England’s largest annual festival of heritage and culture this coming weekend.

National Heritage Open Days are being held across the country during the week, celebrating historic buildings, cultural sites and community spaces, as well as their thousands of volunteers.

And Dogdyke is staging its own heritage open day from 12.30 pm to 4.30 pm on Sunday (September 20), with free admission to all visitors.

A spokesperson for the steam drainage station said: “Come and see our Bradley and Craven 1856 steam engine and our 1940 Ruston and Hornsby oil engine, both of which will be at work.

"There will also be classic cars, tractors, working models and agricultural bygones on display, plus a plant stall, a tombola, a bric-a-brac stall, a museum and refreshments, including home-made cakes, in the pump attendant’s cottage.

"It promises to be an enjoyable day out for all the family. Although admission is free, donations are welcome to help maintain the engines and the site.”

The station can be found east of Tattershall Bridge on the A153 Sleaford to Horncastle road, with access through Bridge Farm (LN4 4JG). Car parking is available on site.
